Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
Jennie Wilkinson is a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist practicing in Wanaka New Zealand.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a non manipulative touch therapy which originated within osteopathy. Its gentleness makes it the therapy of choice for newborns through to the elderly.
Practitioners orient to and engage with the body’s natural capacity for self repair, which brings about changes from within the body. Patterns of restriction naturally arise and release, bringing about a new state of balance across whole body systems. When this takes place the possibilities for recovery and long term resolution are very real, because the body’s natural intelligence has been the driving force.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy works simultaneously with structure and function, bones and membranes, fluid dynamics and the body’s inherent intelligence. At the heart of this therapy is the understanding that life expresses itself as motion, this motion can be felt within the tissues of the body by the developed touch of a trained practitioner. It’s also understood that the body always works as a whole; no bone, tissue or cell stands alone. Therefore any restriction or unresolved trauma will have reciprocal effects through the body, causing symptoms and pathologies to present as well as affecting us mentally and emotionally.
As the name suggests our work is very interested in the Craniosacral system which comprises of the brain, spinal cord and surrounding membranes, all of which are bathed and cushioned by cerebrospinal fluid. The cerebrospinal fluid acts as an absorber of shocks that threaten our most delicate and inner core. We are particularly interested in this fluid which can be experienced as rhythmic primary breath in the body, moving in a tide like fashion, involving all the surrounding tissues and bones, which also express their own particular rhythms. Dr William Sutherland, the founder of this work (an Osteopath in the early 1900’s), stresses the importance of the cerebrospinal fluid and often referred to it as the carrier of the ‘the breath of life’ and likened it to the ‘sap of the tree’. He is not alone in this thought as the great Dr Andrew Taylor Still; the ‘Father of Osteopathy’ described this fluid as the ‘highest known element’. Today, science is only just beginning to understand the full function of this unique substance.
By design our bodies are extremely clever and at the centre of any disturbance, there is health. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is about accessing and reconnecting with health.

Jennie Wilkinson, your Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist.
"I love Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy because it acknowledges the whole human experience, the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. My special interest is in womans health and those who often find they feel unhappy, unfulfilled, lacking in energy or perhaps even depressed and anxious.
The unresolved experiences of accumulated life stresses become imprinted into the very cellular and energetic nature of our bodies tissue. When stimulated, consciously and more often than not unconsciously, health issues and emotional patterns can replay time and again. I believe that Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy's strength lies in its ability to touch into one's intrinsic blueprint, so that health may manifest from a cellular level."
